The General Election - Let's Do This!
Calling all voters - the time has come. The UK is going to the polls (again!) - and hopefully, for Brenda's sake, this will be the last time for a few years!
If you're feeling rather in a bother about all this voting, here's a quick list of reasons why this election is one of the most important yet. Read on to find out more...
Whichever way this election goes, it will determine how the UK leave the EU. All of us, remain-ers and leavers, have a great opportunity to influence one of the most important events of our generation.
Climate change. The NHS. Education. Social care. Tax justice. We could go on! There are so many other important things happening in the UK right now, and whoever wins your constituency will be representing your views on these things in parliament. If you don't vote, there's a chance your views on these issues won't be heard.
You probably spend money, right? And use the NHS? And you went to school at some point? Like it or not, politics touches every part of your life. But luckily, we live in a democracy so we have the right to shape these politics! That's a sweet treat too good to pass up.
Ok, voting isn't the most glamourous of activities, but you're performing a civic duty and doing some great adulting in the process. So give yourself a pat on the back (and a scoop in your bowl!).
Find Out More About Your Elections
The clever cookies over at the London School of Economics have created a handy tool for citizens across the UK to find out more about their local elections - the Democratic Dashboard. Just pop in your postcode to find out about how you can take part on Thursday 8th June. The dashboard not only gives details of all the candidates standing, including links to their websites, but also shows the historic results for the area. Pretty nifty eh?
