All Hail The Ice Cream Sandwich!
Do we stop to think about ice cream sandwiches enough? Answer: We do not. Perhaps because the ice cream sandwich is the kind of beautiful, essential thing that feels like it’s been around forever, a constant in our ever-changing world. Can you imagine a world without ice cream sandwiches? We can’t, any more than we can imagine one without spoons, or kittens, or Snuggies.
Looking to the Past—and the Future
But the ice cream sandwich was NOT bequeathed to us by a benevolent deity wrapped in a sparkling white Snuggie. No, it was, like so many other things, invented in New York City. By a pushcart peddler. In 1899. Ice cream between two thin graham wafers. Genius.
The ice cream sandwich has evolved since then, but we feel that there’s still room for this already-wonderful thing to become so much more. Perhaps one of these breakthrough ideas will result in the ice cream sandwich being celebrated far and wide and appreciated by all, as it should be.
